Ever said to yourself, "I wish something would happen!"
Consider that reckless thinking.
Sometimes that "something" turns out to be scary. Like the time I did my usual breast self-exam and felt a tiny BB I didn't remember feeling before. Next came the mammogram, then the "maybe" verdict, then the biopsy.
Boy, did that un-bore me fast!
Thanks be, they found no cancer.
Or take the morning one of our daughters, college age, called with that plaintive note in her voice. "Is Dad there? I need to talk to him...."
If you've ever had young drivers, you can guess the reason why. Another driver, uninsured, had rear-ended her car--and pushed her into a stopped car--at a Los Angeles intersection and she was stranded.
The good news is she wasn't seriously injured and none of us were bored, at least not until she got her car back.
The bad news is a couple of weeks later we got a letter on a creamy, weighty letterhead which bore the name and prestigious address of a Beverly Hills attorney. He informed us that his firm was representing the offending driver, someone with an unpronounceable name who was in the U.S. on a student visa and they intended to sue.
Oh, the drama of it all! We ran through all the what ifs until finally, common sense returned and we contacted our insurance company. End of story.
Any one of us can tell us stories like this from our own lives. Times when we wish we could go back to yesterday or the day before, when if someone asked, "How was your day?" and we could answer, "Oh, just a normal day, kind of boring ... Nothing much happened."
Ever been there?
So here's a quote that stuck with me. Maybe you'll want to remember it, too.
Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow.

As the writer of Psalm 118 put it in verse 24:
This is the day that the LORD has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
I'm thinking these two together amount to great advice. Because one thing's sure. Isn't this the only day we really have?
So as we start a new week, let's rejoice we're still standing. Let's thank God we're alive and then go out and live it with gusto!
What do you think about it?
Blessings and joy,
Lenore
